A beautiful water mill in the mountains of Galicia with its own river, beautiful gardens and mile after mile of countryside. The property has 4 double rooms and 2 bathrooms, split between the main house & the separate Long House. Outside there is a vine covered terrace, ideal for outside entertaining during the day when the vines keep off the heat of the sun, and for evening drinks, there is a sun deck, designed to catch the last of the evening sun. 45 minutes from Santiago, 25 minutes from Arzua, through which the Camino de Santiago runs, and should the river not be enough for you, an hour and a half from the beautiful beaches of the Galician coast. Area Details Galicia, also known as the green Spain is an ideal place for lovers of nature and for anyone looking for a peaceful rural retreat. The property is in The Rio Arnego valley which runs west to east and faces due south so gets the sun all day. It experiences a micro climate that attracts Mediterranean butterfly species as it tends to be 2 to 3 degrees warmer than the surrounding area. The river is home to trout, kingfishers, dippers and otters. Also wild boar allegedly run wild in the hills. The property fronts the river, with the original mill building still containing the four milling stones and machinery, which will one day be restored, but in the meantime it is a fascinating museum to explore. The river is wonderful for swimming either in the swimming hole in the front of the house, or in the old mill pool where the water is warmer and more still. The Mill is a paradise for walkers, cyclists, horse riders (riding stables near by), wildlife enthusiasts and with the river running through the property, perfect for fishing. An ideal retreat or quiet family holiday, (with access to the river parents must bear this in mind when taking children).
Please note the Mill is in a very rural setting, 8 minutes drive off the main road, half of which is untarmacked. Once parked there\'s a 200m walk to the house. For the majority of clients this only increases the charm of the setting, however for the elderly, infirm or for those with mobility issues, access would be challenging.
Close to the famous historical town of Santiago, renowned for its cathedral of St. James and the end of the\'camino de Santiago\'. Surrounded by many smaller villages which you will find lively and welcoming with their exquisite seafood restaurants and \'tapas\' bars. In addition to many celtic sites, waterfalls and beautiful scenery the ‘Molinos de la Balsina’ a perfect holiday for everyone. Travel Details A car would be necessary.
